Car Phone Syndrome

Random observation: My friend Deidre and I realized the other day that as soon as we get in our cars, we feel absolutely compelled to make phone calls, even if we’re only going a few minutes away. As Deidre says, you close the car door and your first thought is “Okay, who am I gonna call?” It’s like it’s a completely unforgivable waste of time to drive without also talking on the phone. Which leads, at times, to the “just calling to say hi” call that ends shortly thereafter in the “well, I’m sitting outside Clem’s school now and so I need to say goodbye” moment.
